Gaga’s got a real “Bad Romance”

Posted by – March 19, 2010

Who says there aren’t sour grapes in the music industry? Apparently, even Lady Gaga can’t avoid having the same trials as her lyrics, because now a music producer and songwriter who also claims to have been Gaga’s boyfriend is rearing the ugly head of jealousy and sour grapes over her career. According to Rob Fusari, who apparently needs $30.5 million in the lawsuit, even though he’s a music producer and a songwriter and has worked with plenty of other major recording artists, he fostered Lady Gaga’s career and she completely dumped him when her career took off. Would this be the first time that has ever happened to a music producer who thought their protege was attractive and date-able and then something came up that meant they couldn’t get all their money out of it? No.

To be fair, Fusari’s involvement in Gaga’s early career has been stated before in interviews and did clearly state that he was the one to introduce her to a record executive who would eventually bring her to Interscope Records, who would later release “The Fame.” His lawsuit is claiming that while he helped Stefani Germanotta become Lady Gaga, going so far as to claim that he gave her the name and that he “radically changed her style and look.” He did co-wite Paparazzi and Beautiful, Dirty, Rich,  and had a romantic relationship during the development of her career. Once she took off, she dumped him and even though they had a joint venture where he was to earn 20% of the proceeds, he’s claiming after they broken up that he wasn’t receiving any of the money he was supposed to receive. He’s already received $611,000 but claims that he is supposed to get more.

Personally, this sounds a lot like sour grapes and ‘coulda, woulda, shoulda’, but we’ll see how it goes. Lady Gaga, on the other hand, hasn’t said anything immediately, but the actual comments about Lady Gaga’s own identity is that this had been her style since before she became “Lady Gaga.” And given her background, it makes sense. So what’s the real story here? We’ll just have to wait and see.

Beyonce and Lady Gaga’s Telephone Collab Truly Impresses

Fans of both Beyonce and Lady Gaga have been waiting with bated breath for the new collaboration music video, “Telephone,” to premiere, and it looks like Lady Gaga and her companion certainly didn’t disappoint. The new music video premiered last night at 11:30 PM Eastern Standard Time to a ravenous audience just waiting for the video. For the last two months, fans and critics have been given small, quick glimpses of what was going to be in the video, but nothing could have really, really compared to actually seeing the video. With a long intro of over a minute to set up the storyline – Gaga is a new inmate at a “Prison for Bitches,” and Beyonce is her contact on the outside world who later bails her out – the video just gets better from there.

For one thing, the full frontal nudity (Although censored and blurred out, it’s still quite obvious) and the fantastic costuming, it’s hard to tell where the video’s going to go for the moment, or where exactly it relates to the song itself. As most Lady Gaga fans would know, that last factor is strictly optional. With vivid and outrageous telephone-related costuming, it had marks of Lady Gaga’s style all over it. Then again, as it was directed by Jonas Akerlund, the same director to work with her on Paparazzi, you could see the same high levels of thematic care and stylization that makes Lady Gaga enjoy working with him.

All the fans and not-so-fans of the Kill Bill movies would have gotten a real laugh out of the storyline taking place after Lady Gaga gets out of prison, as Beyonce picks her up on the Pussy Wagon, the same exact truck used as the Bride’s escape vehicle at the beginning of Kill Bill Volume 1. On top of that, there are very Tarantino-esque moments in the video, and as Gaga loves to talk about, she is a fan of androgyny and breaking sexual barriers, and there is a healthy dose of that as well in her videos.

Without giving the ending away, this has to be one of the most complex music videos Lady Gaga or Beyonce have done.

Lady Gaga Takes A Spill, and A Rebound

You have to give Lady Gaga credit: That woman loves her fans. She was supposed to perform at Purdue University earlier this week, but when she apparently fainted backstage, it was no dice. While Lady Gaga wanted desperately to go out there and perform, her agent and her security made the call that the show couldn’t go on. Given the amount of technical aspects to her show, there were too many concerns that whatever had struck her down the first time could easily hit her during the show. Unfortunately, cancelling the Thursday night concert didn’t occur until the opening acts of the night, Jason Derulo, as well as Semi Precious Weapons, had performed. That meant that the police had to be sent in to announce the cancellation, much to the audience’s dismay.

But, Lady Gaga was more upset that she had to let down her fans, and she was Tweeting about it that night, stating that she felt she’d let her fans down horribly and that she would definitely make it up to them. How is she doing that? She’s rescheduled her concert for January 26th and plans on giving her fans the concert they paid for.

But, that didn’t stop Lady Gaga from getting right back on top of things as she performed for “The Oprah Winfrey Show” Friday morning. She seemed fine, so let’s hope that whatever her illness was, it wasn’t a permanent situation and that she’s going to be just fine. There have been no reports if the illness was serious, and she seems to be functioning again, so it might have just been exhaustion, given that this is her first solo tour. As even Cher knows, sometimes, exhaustion hits and you just need to take a break. But, seriously, Lady Gaga? Cut yourself some slack! You’re only human, girl!

The Fame Monster That Is Lady Gaga

Posted by – November 30, 2009

With the release of Lady Gaga’s newest 8 track album, “The Fame Monster,” featuring her newest single “Bad Romance,” it’s time to take a look at the Haus of GaGa and try to figure out just why everyone loves the blonde bombshell who likes to thank “God and the gays.” For many, it’s a combination of her theatricality and her music.

For the same reasons that so many people love Marilyn Manson and the Dresden Dolls, the people have cried out that they love Lady Gaga, and so she has brought them a new album. Lady Gaga’s theatrical nature and bizarre videos and live performances have managed to completely capture the public eye. In the newest video, “Bad Romance,” Lady Gaga’s choreography was grotesque and reminiscent of Michael Jackson’s Thriller, while also bringing incredibly vivid imagery. That might be what makes people like her so much, the fact that she can utilize this imagery and seems to be feeding the desire of the youth demographic to have hard, blood-pumping pop music.

But just like Lady Gaga’s previous album, “The Fame,” the new one doesn’t necessarily follow one simple formula. Another notable song from “The Fame Monster” is “Speechless,” written for her father and showcasing another side of Lady Gaga’s personality.

Thematically, just as “The Fame” dealt with the demons and obstacles faced in the quest for fame, “The Fame Monster” details the pitfalls of having become famous. The music is just as blood-thumping techno as the last album, and utilizes innovative lyrics to really sell the theme. Just take a look at “Bad Romance,” where Lady Gaga references and was utilizing a great deal of imagery from Alfred Hitchcock movies.

Overall, “The Fame Monster” has lived up to all the hype it was given before the release, if not more and is worth the purchase just for “Bad Romance” and “Speechless.” Another hit album from Lady Gaga proves she isn’t planning on being just another flash in the pan.
