Lady Gaga Takes A Spill, and A Rebound

Posted by – January 16, 2010

You have to give Lady Gaga credit: That woman loves her fans. She was supposed to perform at Purdue University earlier this week, but when she apparently fainted backstage, it was no dice. While Lady Gaga wanted desperately to go out there and perform, her agent and her security made the call that the show couldn’t go on. Given the amount of technical aspects to her show, there were too many concerns that whatever had struck her down the first time could easily hit her during the show. Unfortunately, cancelling the Thursday night concert didn’t occur until the opening acts of the night, Jason Derulo, as well as Semi Precious Weapons, had performed. That meant that the police had to be sent in to announce the cancellation, much to the audience’s dismay.

But, Lady Gaga was more upset that she had to let down her fans, and she was Tweeting about it that night, stating that she felt she’d let her fans down horribly and that she would definitely make it up to them. How is she doing that? She’s rescheduled her concert for January 26th and plans on giving her fans the concert they paid for.

But, that didn’t stop Lady Gaga from getting right back on top of things as she performed for “The Oprah Winfrey Show” Friday morning. She seemed fine, so let’s hope that whatever her illness was, it wasn’t a permanent situation and that she’s going to be just fine. There have been no reports if the illness was serious, and she seems to be functioning again, so it might have just been exhaustion, given that this is her first solo tour. As even Cher knows, sometimes, exhaustion hits and you just need to take a break. But, seriously, Lady Gaga? Cut yourself some slack! You’re only human, girl!

Mariah Carey Goes A Little Heavy On the Bubbly

Posted by – January 8, 2010

For the most part, when you think of the weird, nonsensical, or downright bizarre, and sometimes drunken speeches, the Golden Globes or the MTV Music Awards come to mind. Well, it turns out for Mariah Carey, she decided to give everyone her drunken speech an entire week early! The famous R&B artist known for the insanely high vocal range has been dipping her feet back into the wading pool of film acting once more. I think we all remember the snafu that was Glitter, so to be honest, when we all found out she was starring in the film “Precious,” where she would be playing a social worker… we were all a bit skeptical. And that’s putting it nicely.

But, apparently, she did what Keanu Reeves could not before deciding to do Shakespeare, and that is actually get lessons and apply herself. In the film “Precious,” Carey actually turned out quite a performance, enough that at the Palm Springs International Film Festival, she won the award for Breakthrough Actress. Unfortunately, the singer didn’t seem to be aware that when preparing to give an awards speech, it helps to be sober.
According to Carey, her official story is that after a whirlwind day, she hadn’t had a chance to eat before the award shows. She and a companion had been in the back celebrating the success of the film and, according to her, her award, and had had “a few splashes of champagne.” So, unless she’s the biggest lightweight to alcohol in the entirety of stardom, her story isn’t quite adding up how completely buzzed she was during her speech. Her speech didn’t make much sense at all, and she kept stopping and starting sentences that altogether made her seem like her brain was off somewhere else completely. Or that she was just too emotionally touched to be coherent. Either way, good job, Mariah. You made an otherwise half-way boring Film Festival super-interesting.

Eminem Gets Much Needed Help From An Unlikely Friend

Posted by – January 4, 2010

When you think of hardcore rapper Eminem, the last thing you’d think of is going to be the man who wrote “Crocodile Rock,” Elton John. But, it seems that Eminem has been looking for a friend with one of the friendliest artists of the music industry. In an interview with BBC Radio on Saturday, Sir Elton came out saying that Enimen has been coming to him as a supportive friend and confidante during this time. Of course, who better to go to then Elton John, known for his supportive nature. In fact, Elton John stated that he enjoyed giving help to those friends who needed and asked for it, and it seems that Eminem has been no exception.

Eminem spoke in the past of his problems with substance abuse, mainly due to a dependence on painkillers, such as Vicodin. He has mentioned how quickly he was spiraling downwards due to the addiction. In fact, as the drugs went from one prescription medication to quite a few, Eminem recounts how he found himself taking up to 20 pills a day and it had gotten to the point where he didn’t even know what he was taking.

Elton John has been there for Eminem for other situations as well, namely to combat accusations that Eminem’s lyrics were homophobic. He was the one to discuss making sure that he would perform at the Grammy’s, but only if Sir Elton would be there. When he did perform alongside him during the Grammy’s, it made an unintentional statement. He didn’t care about his orientation and Elton was supportive of the performance, helping to forget a friendship that clearly has been one of the best influences on Eminem’s personal recovery. One can only hope that Elton John and Eminem’s friendship will continue to be strong and help the younger man recover from a difficult addiction.

American Idol About To Be Simon-less

Posted by – December 25, 2009

For just about everyone out there who watches American Idol, it’s impossible to imagine a season with the most negative man possibly on the face of the earth, the man who has established a reputation as being able to smile and backhand your ego at the same time: Simon Cowell. But, now that Fox is looking at their contract negotiations, they have decided to try bringing another 3 seasons after its current contract expires, but it seems that Simon Cowell has already considered leaving.

After losing Paula Abdul due to bizarre circumstances, Cowell leaving would be another blow to the show, but probably nothing that Fox can’t handle. After all, Fox knows that people tune in to watch the talent, and not just the biting, sarcastic and downright low criticisms that Simon dishes out with no regard for anyone else. But, it does beg the question: Why the heck is he leaving in the first place? Wasn’t X-Factor his baby back in the UK, and didn’t he help make American Idol what it is?

Well, it seems that X-Factor will be exactly the problem. As Simon Cowell’s brother Tony told people in his podcast last week, Simon doesn’t plan on staying past 2010, and wants to bring X-Factor over to the United States. So, not only would American Idol lose their dramatic and insulting judge, that judge would be bringing direct competition to Fox. Of course, that’s not for another year, and he hasn’t actually signed a contract with Sony, the owners of “X-Factor” in the first place. Once those deals are done, though, it’s possible we’ll see Simon Cowell gone forever from American Idol and permanently working on involving himself in X-Factor as much as possible.

So will Fox really get the new seasons of American Idol they want after Simon leaves, or will they find themselves directly competing with the show he brings over? We’ll have to wait and see.

T.I. Gets An Early Release… From Prison

Posted by – December 24, 2009

Who would have thought two years ago that when the  rapper T.I. had tried to buy unregistered silencers and machine guns from some undercover federal agents that he’d be getting out almost four months early? It seems that T.I. wasn’t even expecting it, but it looks like his behavior made enough of an impression that the holidays have come to him early.

At the moment, though, he’s sitting in a halfway house in Atlanta, Georgia, on his way to go back home soon. He could have served up to 10 years in prison for trying to buy those weapons, but instead, he had only been given a year and one day sentence and only served seven months of that. It doesn’t sit well that a man calling himself the “King of the South” didn’t even get remotely close to a full sentence for trying to pick up machine guns, and now he’s got out early.

But, then again, T.I. has actually done a great job of actually holding up to the plea deal he’d made, which would mean he’d be on house arrest before he actually went to his sentence, and he would also be speaking to communities in the hopes of discouraging the use of guns or violence, and telling them of the dangers of using drugs.

T.I. hasn’t actually dicussed what this means for his career, but he probably has plans to come back to the spotlight as soon as possible, but first he wants to spend time with his family for the holidays. Or at the very least, spend his holiday not behind bars. He’s been incredibly popular as a rapper for this generation, so it’s not hard to imagine that people would like him back, but it seems to go without saying that everyone wants T.I. to keep his act together first.

Buju Banton’s Mishap In Miami

Posted by – December 16, 2009

Buju Banton has been known as one of the top Jamaican Reggae stars with a strong presence and a power for song. Unfortunately, it seems that the talents that had gotten him up in the spotlight won’t really be helping him much anytime soon. In what seems almost a little too  cliche for that particular genre of music, this reggae star is about to be attending a bail hearing that’s scheduled for today, Wednesday, December 16th in Miami. And why exactly is Buju Banton trying to get out on bail at the moment?

For Buju Banton, it seems that even stardom can’t keep them away from the lure of illegal drugs. Banton and two other associates are charged with allegedly trying to buy a substantial amount of cocaine in Florida. Unfortunately, they tried to buy it off of an undercover police officer in Sarasota.  While he was originally held in Miami Thursday of last week, he has since been transferred to Tampa, as the actual trial will be conducted there.

The crime isn’t exactly a small one, either. The federal officials have officially decided to try him with criminal conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute more than five kilograms of cocaine. In layman’s terms, you’re talking about a lot of cocaine that most likely would not have been for personal use, and so the federal forces have ever intention of making sure that they have a solid case.

But what will that mean for Buju Banton himself? If convicted, it would most certainly be the end of his career as a reggae artist. He could be facing up to a maximum 20 years in prison, and even if he doesn’t get that, he will be spending a few years there at least. As for Banton’s statement on the whole thing, he’s denying the charges.

Hopefully, Banton’s career won’t be lost because of it.
