The Black Eyed Peas

Posted by – July 1, 2011

The Black Eyed Peas are America’s best selling and popular hip-hop group. The group comprises of rappers, singers and multi-instrument artists. The current songwriting and vocalist members of this group are: William Adams, Stacy Ferguson, Jaime Gomez and Allan Pineda while instrumentalists of the group are: George Pajon, Jr. on Guitar; Tim Izo on Saxophone and Flute; Printz Board on Keys and Trumpet; and Keith Harris on Drums.

The group was formed in Los Angeles in 1995 and they released their debut album ‘Behind The Front’ in 1998. Their next album ‘Bridging the Gap’ was released in 2000. They gave their first major global hit in 2003.  This was the single “Where is the Love”, which topped more than ten global charts.

With the release of their most creative album “The E.N.D”, they established themselves as a global music icon. More than 11 million copies of this album were sold worldwide, outperforming their previous hit ‘Monkey business’. By then the group has already sold over 56 million records globally.

William Adams, popularly known as will.i.am, and Allan Pineda, more famous as apl.de.ap, are the two oldest and original members laying the foundation of the group. The duo used to perform together in the Los Angeles area as early as in 1988. At that time, both were the part Atban Klann group. Later the group was renamed as Black Eyed Peas. More members joined subsequently and the group became a leading hip-hop band entertaining millions with their soul-touching innovative music.

The Black Eyed Peas are always seen as innovators and their tremendous success has been often attributed to their innovation. Instead of following the contemporary music, the group believes in creating their own music. Their music seems to be a gradual evolution of sound. This has been made possible majorly because they had been new technologies with time. Thus, their music seems to be futuristic one and this makes them popular among the global audience.

Why the Beatles Remasters Matter

Posted by – November 26, 2009

No doubt you’ve heard the plugs for the recent release of the entire Beatles catalog, remastered, and available only on CD. And if you’re like most music fans, you don’t really know what remastering involves, although you may guess (properly, in most cases), that remasters sound better than master versions they’re replacing.

This is because the Beatles original master tapes consist of mixes of multiple tape tracks, usually adjusted (using a variety of improvement methods including equalization) specifically for release in the primary format of the day, vinyl. When these mixes were, in the late 1980s, first burned onto CDs, they didn’t sound very good. Many critics described the sound as “muddy,” and also criticized CDs for lacking the ability to capture as wide a sound range as albums.

Apple sound engineers began remastering four years ago with technology far superior to that available when the original albums were pressed in the 1960s and the first set of CDs burned in the 1980s. They were able to make processing choices not available in previous eras, and able to take into consideration that current CDs (and sound systems) have a much larger range than CDs produced in the 1980s and can deliver more “crisp” audio quality.

The end result is spectacular. Even if you have every Beatles song memorized, listening to the remasters on a decent sound system (or good headphones) will be a revelation. Sounds you’ve never heard before, or heard only in a muted fashion, are distinct. What stands out for this writer, in particular, is the incredible melodic baseline that Paul McCartney added to many songs (very difficult to hear on older recordings). And the warmth of the vocals on some of the ballads, such as “For No One” and “Julia,” is simply astounding.

In other words, the Beatles remasters are, ahem, a very sound investment.

Aerosmith-America’s Greatest Rock and Roll Band

Posted by – November 24, 2009

Aerosmith, the Bad Boys of Boston, have been dazzling fans worldwide for almost 40 years. Aerosmith (Steven Tyler, Joe Perry, Joey Kramer, Tom Hamilton and Brad Whitford) first formed in 1970 as a small suburban band scrapping to survive. In 1972, everything changed when Clive Davis saw them play and offered them a record deal with Columbia. Their first album, Aerosmith, debuted in Jan. of the following year. In spite of this, they didn’t go main stream until 1975 when their album Toys in the Attic came out and they have been pumping out hits ever since.

Despite all of their success, they only had their first number one hit in 1998 with I Don’t Want To Miss A Thing. That song stemmed from a movie his daughter (Liv) was to star in and came to him to do the music for it. He said, and I’m paraphrasing, that he just couldn’t say no after hearing “Daddy, please?” That is when it all of their hard work finally paid off and brought the hit every rock star hopes for, which extended their music to a completely new generation.

Aerosmith holds the record for the most gold and multi-platinum albums for an American band. They have sold an astounding 150 million albums worldwide, 66.5 million in the U.S. alone. In 2001 they were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, proving the fact that they truly are America’s Greatest Rock and Roll Band.

Now, 14 studio albums and many chart topping hits later, it looks like there will be no more Sweet Emotion coming from Aerosmith. After many issues surrounding Tyler’s accident on their latest tour, rumors have it that he is quitting the band to attempt a solo career. Could this possibly be the end of a legend?
